Dissolved Air Flotation DAF Industrial Wastewater
The final stage of chemical treatment includes the separation of solids and flocs from the water. Depending upon the characteristics of the solids/flocs, sludge and clean water can be separated using:
Slant Plate Clarifiers use gravity settlings, the most energy efficient solids/water separation technique. Slant plates are used to decrease the distance a particle has to fall before it hits a surface. The flow rate of the clarifier is based on a number of factors, including particle density, surface area, fall rate, loading and temperature.
Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) are incorporated when the sludge is less dense than water, or is neutrally buoyant. DAF uses billions of micro-bubbles that attach themselves to the flocs and carry them to the surface. These bubbles, known as “whitewater”, are removed by a mechanical skimmer within the DAF unit that skims away floating sludge.
Other Sludge Removal Options: When the sludge produced by coagulation/flocculation treatment does not need to be preserved, and consists of very sensitive flocs, newterra designs supplement the system with higher filtration technologies, such as bag filters and cartridge filters, self-indexing filters, screw presses and filter presses. If further polishing is required following sludge/water separation, water can be pumped into vessels with specialty media or activated carbon.
